German visitors to the academy
11.10.2011To celebrate the European Day of Languages, we invited a party of 47 German sixth formers from Berlin to visit the academy.
The visitors were very impressed with the new Music suite and recording studio, they also admired the luxury of a Costa Café for the sixth formers and the brand new Nurture Base for Year 7 students. Particular thanks go to Matthew Bennett, Elisha Bridge, Ethan Dean and Kayleigh Hardman (all Y9 students) who ran the guided tours so efficiently. Our guests said they really enjoyed meeting you.
The German visitors also worked with 16 different classes in the academy, covering a range of ages and subjects to maximise contact with as many of our students as possible. The students will return to their school in Berlin, the Hans-Carossa Grammar School, filled to bursting with their impressions of life in an English school. Many German schools do not enjoy the same state of the art
facilities often seen in English schools, for example, they do not have any interactive whiteboards and even though their school has the same number of pupils as our school, they have just 3 ICT classrooms.
A big thank you to all of the staff and students who helped to make this visit so successful!
You can find out more about our German guests by visiting their school website or by looking at the photos of their visit in our gallery.
