Johnny Vegas finds talent at the academy

14.10.2011

On Friday 30th September, our very own ‘superstar in the making’, Ryan Waterworth (YR10) secured a prominent acting role for Sky One’s upcoming Christmas season entitled ‘Christmas Crackers’.

After undergoing numerous casting auditions, he finally received the news that he had made the grade! Johnny was so impressed with Ryan, he even took the time to visit the academy to give him some one-to-one coaching. The programme – due to be aired at Christmas - is one of a collection of hilarious stories written by esteemed comedians, including Johnny Vegas and John Bishop.

The academy was the venue for a significant number of the casting auditions, of which, many of our pupils took part in. Many talented, budding actors came from far and wide from across the North West, and even though Ryan is an experienced Performing Arts Student, he did particularly well in securing his role. It was a fantastic opportunity for all our students, to experience, first-hand what it feels like to have an audition of such a high calibre, and as usual, they were an absolute credit to us.

A special thanks is due to Mr Albrecht and Mr Hughes for their support in coaching our students and helping the evenings to run smoothly – Thanks Guys!

The Drama Department would also like to extend its eternal gratitude to The Principal Mr Terry and Vice Principal Mrs Sudworth, for their unwavering support throughout this venture.

Watch this space – where you will be able to view the completed programme – with Ryan making his debut as a nuisance teenager! Now come to think of it – I think I know why he got the role!!! Ha ha!

Well Done Ryan! We’re very very proud of you! Enjoy the shoot and break a leg!
