Year 11 - Football Success

02.11.2011

Congratulations to the Year 11 boys football team, who have progressed into the next round of the Schools Cup with a 4-2 victory over St Cuthberts.

Conditions on the day were challenging to say the least, but Sutton made the most of this and took an early lead when Lewis Brown scored directly from a corner (wind assisted). Not to be outdone by this Jack French got on the scoring with a spectacular over head kick. If only the cameras were there, Jack eh? Adam Horkins completed the scoring with a well taken brace of goals. The draw for the next round is eagerly anticipated.

The second match of the season saw Sutton taking on the newly formed Hope Academy at Sutton, on the Astroturf.  Conditions were damp to say the least and keeping your footing was the order of the day.  Unfortunately Mr Nixon didn’t and the biggest laugh came when the coach ended up on his behind. On the pitch, the game was starting to boil over and the visitors took the lead, Rob Shields then strolled through the centre of the field before unleashing a shot that the keeper only got finger tips to, but was unable to stop from crossing the line. Hope rallied and took the lead once more, before Connor Simpson levelled for the hosts, challenges were flying in and this seemed to spur Sutton on. Lewis Brown put Sutton ahead for the first time in the game and the scoring was completed by Jack French. Final score Sutton 4 Hope 2.

Special thanks go to Phil Curran and Jack York for making themselves available for refereeing duties.

Mr Nixon
