Year 7 6-a-side Football Final

24.02.2012

Having beaten Sugar & Dream in their respective Semi finals; Mandela played Bolt in the final of the 1st Super Learning Day 6-a-side football tournament. Both teams had remained unbeaten through the preliminary rounds but now there could be only one ultimate winner. Read more...

The final started as a cagey affair with both teams probing for an unlikely weakness in their opponent's ranks. Tackles were flying in and neither team could keep possession for long. Mandela forced a corner from which Jamie McNally deflected the cross into the back of the net to take Mandela into a 1 goal lead. Back came Bolt with Drew Johnson leading the way. Their reward was a deserved equaliser scored by tenacious Drew Johnson. Mandela upped their game and started to get more possession and through this forced pressure on the Bolt goal. With only minutes left up popped Liam Jackson to finish off a well worked move to score the decisive goal that made Mandela the champions.

All the games throughout the tournament were played with excellent sportsmanship. More than 40 pupils were involved including 7 girls. Megan Smith played excellently in every game and Drew Johnson was Man of the Match in the final. A special mention to 2 six form boys, Dylan Smith & Jack York, who refereed all the games and helped out every week in the cold with no thought of reward.
