Year 7 - Rugby Success

On Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd March, our Year 7 and Year 8 Rugby League teams won their St Helens Champion Schools Finals.

The Year 7 rugby team became St Helens Schools Champions after defeating Cowley 26-4 on Wednesday evening. Cowley opened the scoring early in the game but a strong effort from Danny Edwards and a long distance try from fullback Jack Stevens turned the table and gave Sutton a 12-4 lead. Superb defence on their own try line was rewarded early in the second half when Callum Hazzard intercepted a pass and went the length of the field to extend Sutton’s lead and the lads never looked back.

Hard hitting Sutton defence throughout the second half prevented Cowley from getting back into the game and some expansive attacking rugby allowed Sutton to stretch the lead even further. It was an excellent night for the team and we would like to thank all of the players for their fantastic attitude and performance in the final.

Let’s keep the trophy for the next 5 years!
