Year 9 Football Match v Rainford
07.10.2010The Sutton Academy 3 – 0 Rainford High School
Game over inside first ten minutes !
The Year 9 team continued their impressive start to the season with a comfortable win in the St. Helens School’s Cup Competition. Rainford were stunned to find themselves 3-0 down after only 9 minutes.
The first of the Sutton goals came after some good midfield work saw a great though ball fed into striker Lewis Blakemore (9MDE) who calmly chipped it over the out rushing keeper. Midfielder Craig Johnson (9EBP) then added a second two minutes later after lobbing the keeper with a neat left foot strike from the edge of the area. With Rainford shell-shocked by the outstanding football on display, the Sutton team continued to press and quick passing saw another opportunity carved out for striker Lewis in the box who controlled the ball on his chest and then knee before hitting a left foot strike to make the score 3-0. With the game now out of sight for Rainford, Sutton’s confidence grew and the opposition never looked like getting back in the game with the Sutton defence and midfield dominating at all times.
At half-time changes were made and the substitutes were introduced into the game. More opportunities were had in the second half, notably with Jake Houghton (9CST ) and Jack Langley (9 MDE) firing just wide, and with a bit more luck and a little more composure the final score could and should have been a lot more.
In summary, a great performance by the Sutton team, with great effort and neat passing on show all over the pitch. A special mention must go to MOM performer today midfielder Ryan Houghton (9LBI); his strength and energy throughout played a decisive part in the win. Well done to all the boys !
Next game: v St Aelreds on 14 October, (H) on Astroturf.
