Young Leadership Challenge 2010

01.10.2010

Well done to two of our Sixth Form students who took part in the Young Leadership Challenge during the summer holidays.

Rachael Williams (13HSH) and Victoria Walker (13MMR) along with 22 other young leaders undertook a once in a lifetime experience involving a three week expedition to Nicaragua, Central America. The project, aimed at helping young people to develop their leadership skills, is supported by St Helens Chamber’s Enterprising St Helens Initiative and global charity Raleigh International. The challenge involved fundraising to cover the costs of flights,Raleigh kit and vaccinations. Overall the costs came to around £2000. In Nicaragua, the group split into two groups and stayed in different villages.

One group worked on the water project, whilst the other on the eco-laterine project. During the last week of the expedition the group climbed Cosiguina Volcano - the site of the second largest volcanic eruption in history. This took the group a total of 3 days to complete.

Well done to Rachael and Victoria on such a great achievement.
